Report: Temple talks to Gonzalez

Temple athletic director Bill Bradshaw will interview Manhattan coach Bobby Gonzalez sometime this week, an unnamed source told The Philadelphia Inquirer.

Gonzalez has coached the Jaspers for seven years and is best-known for leading them to a first-round upset of No. 5 Florida in the 2004 NCAA Tournament.

Gonzalez is also rumored as a top choice for the job opening at Seton Hall.

Still, Penn coach Fran Dunphy is regarded as the frontrunner for the Temple job.

Dunphy's Quakers defeated Gonzalez's Manhattan squad, 49-47, in the finals of the 2003 ECAC Holiday Festival at Madison Square Garden.

Other candidates reported to have interviewed for the job include Drexel coach Bruiser Flint, former USC coach Henry Bibby (currently a Philadelphia 76ers assistant), top Temple assistant Dan Leibovitz (a 1996 Penn graduate), former Owls assistant Dean Demopoulos (an assistant with the Portland Trail Blazers) and former Temple guard Rick Brunson (currently a Houston Rockets player).
