Penn football starting quarterback situation ambiguous

Freshman quarterback Miles Teodecki’s injury against Howard leaves QB1 status questionable for Friday night.

According to coach Rick Santos, the status of the guy putting the ball in the air is still up in the air.

After going down with a knee injury in the second quarter of last week’s game against Howard, freshman quarterback Miles Teodecki was ruled out for the remainder of the contest. Junior quarterback Karson Siqueiros-Lasky took over, leading the Quakers to a 24-20 comeback victory.

The Philadelphia Inquirer reported that Santos declined to commit to a starter for Friday’s 7 p.m. Ivy League showdown against the Columbia Lions. Teodecki was seen taking snaps at practice on Tuesday, but that doesn’t serve as an official designation of QB1.

“Facing adversity and being able to stay up on yourself, stay motivated is a really important characteristic, not only in football but just life in general,” Siqueiros-Lasky told the Inquirer.

Both quarterbacks have performed their duties well this season: Teodecki has thrown for 607 yards and two touchdowns under center, and Siqueiros-Lasky threw for 226 yards and two touchdowns in last week’s comeback win. In addition, Teodecki scored a rushing touchdown, while Siqueiros-Lasky added a receiving touchdown.

Penn’s eventual starting quarterback, along with the rest of the Quakers, will take on Columbia this Friday at Franklin Field. The Lions are 3-1 on the season and 0-1 in conference play after posting a 35-7 loss to Princeton in their Ivy League opener. The Quakers are also looking to claim their first conference victory of the season under Franklin Field's Friday night lights.
