Junior Matt Valenti, who captured the NCAA wrestling championship in the 133-pound weightclass Saturday, has been named the Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Association's Wrestler of the Year.
Valenti had one of the best individual seasons in Penn history, amassing 36 wins to become the first Penn wrestler to earn his 100th win in his junior year.
Valenti suffered only two losses during this season.
He won the EIWA Championship earlier this month, then became the Quakers' third national champion ever, helping Penn to a 12th-place team finish.
Valenti was the only NCAA champion from the EIWA this season.
