Gymnastics wins in final home meet

Penn's seven senior gymnasts were able to finish their final home competition with one last win.

Quakers senior Emily Petkun won the all-around competition on Saturday as the Penn gymnastics team topped Brown, 187.875-186.800, in its second victory over the Bears this season.

Last Saturday was an emotional day for the seven seniors on the team: Petkun, Laura Duros, Becca Aronson, Kristyn DeMarco, Jessica Fuerst, Desirae Gaspero and Alexandra Perrotto.

Along with Petkun and Duros putting up their usual solid performances, other seniors contributed such as Aronson (9.400 on vault) and Perrotto (9.100 on beam).

The Quakers came out in support of their seniors, who have served as role models for their younger teammates.

"It was sad, but it was happy too because all the seniors did really well at the meet," junior Christa Quattromani said. "Basically the point of the meet was just to congratulate them for making it for four years and being excellent leaders and making the program what it is today."

Penn savored the sweet taste of victory after a disappointing loss March 4 at the Tar Heel Invitational at North Carolina. The Quakers finished last with a score of 185.650, behind UNC, West Virginia and Pittsburgh.

The Quakers are back in action Saturday, facing Ivy rival Cornell.
