Cornell is Lafayette defense's latest victim

Sophomore guard Paul Cummins led all scorers with 12 points and Lafayette held its second straight opponent to under 50 points, defeating Cornell 57-43 in Easton, Pa., last night.

The game was relatively even until the Leopards (3-2) scored nine straight at the end of the first half.

There were five ties and five lead changes until Lafayette went up 26-17 at halftime.

In the second, Cornell (2-4) came no closer than eight, as Cummins his a key three-pointer to ignite an 8-2 run when the Big Red came close.

Cornell was led by Ryan Rourke and Andrew Naeve, who each scored nine points.

Naeve lead all players with 10 rebounds.

For Lafayette, it was its seventh win in its last nine tries against the Big Red.

It was also the first time in four years that the Leopards have held consecutive opponents under 50 points.

Both have been in the Ivy League; Lafayette beat Princeton 57-46, on Sunday.
