PSA to offer DVD rentals next fall from Houston Hall venue

Students in search of an inexpensive evening's entertainment will soon not have to look further than the basement of Houston Hall.

A new video rental establishment, expected to open in time for the beginning of the fall semester, will be situatedin the game room across from Houston Market and run by Penn Student Agencies. The group will also assume management responsibilities for the game room as well.

"We bounced around a lot of ideas, and [students] thought this was best," PSA general manager Katie Pyott said.

When it opens, the store will offer approximately 500 movie titles on DVD, according to Pyott, who emphasized that the student run agency would rely on student feedback and PSA flexibility in determining which titles would be popular.

Students will also be able to stock up on snack food to enjoy while watching their selection.

"We'll also have Coke products, chips and candy," Pyott said.

Other details, such as the exact operating hours and rental prices are still being worked out, according to PSA organizers -- but students will be able to pay for their rentals with the Bursar feature of their PennCard, Pyott said.

In the future the facility may also offer other rental options, such as PlayStation games, but plans have not been finalized.

In addition to the video store, PSA is responsible for a number of services around campus, including a coffee shop on the first floor of Williams Hall, a laundry service and commissaries in Hamilton, Harnwell and Harrison college houses.
