U. names replacement for top information officer

University officials have announced that current Vice President for Information Services and Computing Robin Beck will become Penn's chief information officer this summer.

James O'Donnell, vice provost for information systems and computing and the University's current top information officer, will leave Penn to become the provost of Georgetown University after the academic year. Beck will become responsible for the implementation of the University's technology initiatives and for the oversight of Penn's various technology bodies.

Beck has worked at Penn in various capacities since 1989. During her time in Information Systems and Computing, she has aided in the development of numerous technology initiatives, including the creation of Penn InTouch. She took over as vice president of ISC in September 2001.

"She has already proven herself to be an outstanding manager with a depth of experience at ISC that will serve the University well," Provost Robert Barchi said in a statement. "We're fortunate to have someone with her combination of technical proficiency, vision and leadership skills to coordinate our efforts in ISC."

During his time at Penn, O'Donnell has also worked as a Classical Studies professor and as faculty master of Hill College House.
