Political Science Professor Alvin Rubinstein died on Dec. 18 at the age of 74, after suffering a stroke on Dec. 6.
Rubinstein was celebrating his retirement at the Faculty Club on Dec. 6 after teaching his last class when he suddenly fell ill. He was rushed to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvanian, where he remained in a coma until his death.
Throughout his 44 years as a faculty member at Penn, Rubinstein taught thousands of students. Widely regarded as an excellent lecturer, his International Politics class had been the department's largest and most popular course.
