To choose our Give Me 5 listings, the Guides editors usually get together and write up a list of the many things happening for the week throughout the city and a select few--five, in fact--are set apart as deserving of special attention. But this week, it was suggested that we pick a Philadelphia Jazz Legacy Series concert. Sounds fine. But if we dig deeper, it is soon revealed that Street is sponsoring this particular event. We're milking our own cow, tooting our own horn and patting ourselves on the back all at the same time. That's not to say that the show doesn't merit the attention. The performances in the past have been quite impressive, and Elliott Levin does play a mean sax. But why this show in particular, given that we've already done a profile of the series in general? Because we're sellouts. Now that we've just accounted for any objections you might have to our choosing this show and rendered them harmless, just go, enjoy the show and forget this ever happened. Because Elliot Levin rocks.
