Sex Mob Does Bond is the third release and latest work from New York City downtown jazz quartet Sex Mob. It is a psychedelic concept album based on interpretations of themes from early James Bond films, taken primarily from the songbook of film composer John Barry. Sex Mob Does Bond was originally conceived for the Knitting Factory's Sound of Film Festival. The resulting LP is an eclectic mix of funky melodies, wild riffs, and free jazz.
Comprised of slide-trumpeter and band leader Steven Bernstein, drummer Kenny Wollesen, sax player Briggan Krauss, upright bassist Tony Scherr and, with an appearance on this album, John Medeski of Medeski, Martin and Wood, Sex Mob is one of the most critically acclaimed and musically inventive quartets on the modern jazz scene.
Aside from their own compositions, they have covered everything from Nirvana to Prince with a sound that is wild, passionate and just plain fun. This latest endeavor is no different.
