Controversial Sharpton to speak at ceremony Sharpton, the president of the National Action Network, will speak at the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Commemorative Public Reception as part of the six-week "Keeping the Dream Alive" celebration, organized by the African-American Resource Center. Sharpton was invited to give the keynote address by the event's head committee, according to Afi Roberson, a staff member in the AARC. Throughout his career, Sharpton has been involved in numerous controversial events. Although Sharpton is "often involved in a lot of controversy," Roberson said that "for the most part" people on campus are looking forward to hearing what he has to say. The two recipients of the King Award -- Julia Chinn and C.B. Kimmins -- will receive the honor for their work in the West Philadelphia community. -- Stephanie Oliva
