The Daily Pennsylvanian

CAMPUS BRIEF: Monday, November 2, 1998

Activist Gloria Steinem to speak Wednesday The Conaissance division of the Social Planning and Events Committee invited Steinem to be this year's fall speaker and expects that the show will be sold out by Tuesday. Tickets will be on sale today for two dollars from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Locust Walk directly across from Steinberg-Dietrich Hall. Tickets will also be sold on Tuesday from 2 p.m. until 5 p.m. and on Wednesday from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m., if necessary. As an extra incentive to buy early there will be a raffling off of tickets to attend the reception following Steinem's address. The two winners will be announced on Tuesday night. But Steinem's speech should be incentive enough, according to Conaissance Chairperson Dara Gruen. "She has a lot to offer Penn's diverse student body as she is a prominent writer and activist," said the College senior. "We anticipate a great deal of student interest and hope that Steinem will offer opinions on feminism and the presidential scandal." The tickets will be general admission and will be sold on a first-come, first-serve basis, with priority given to Penn students. If tickets are not sold out, sales will open up to the rest of the Penn community. --Erin Johnson
