SPORTS BRIEFS: Thursday, September 24, 1998

Field Hockey shut out by Lafayette, falls to 1-2 Kellee Salber helped the Leopards pounce on the Red and Blue early when she netted her first goal shortly after the game began. Lafayette dominated the first half, as Penn rarely had control of the ball long enough to mount an attack. Salber struck again later in the day, scoring her second goal in the beginning of the second half. When the Quakers did have the ball long enough to take a shot, Lafayette goaltender Amy Cohen was just too tough. The Patriot League leader in goals against average with a .983 percentage, Cohen finished yesterday's game with seven saves. Penn keeper Sarah Dunn was one bright spot for the visiting team. Despite allowing two goals, she ended the game with 10 saves. The loss drops the Quakers' season record to 1-2, as they head into tomorrow night's matchup with Ivy League rival Cornell. -- Rick Haggerty
