W. Soccer stars shine for summer club teams

With the way some of its players are playing this summer, a second consecutive ECAC Championship looks very realistic. Sophomore midfielder Kellianne Toland, a Philadelphia native, is one of the players the Quakers will be counting on to lead them this year. A first team All-Ivy League selection, Toland is currently playing for FC Bayern, a club team in the 18-and-under age group. Toland was recently named MVP of the Pennsylvania State Cup and will travel to Erie, Pa., on July 2 for the Region I championship. The winner will represent Region I at the national club championships. Toland, however, is not the only member of the Red and Blue to get some summer playing time. Several Penn players play throughout the four national regions and various age groups. Sophomore Emily Goodman's Potomac Pros team lost, 2-1, in the championship game of the Maryland 19-and-under age group, but Goodman still earned MVP honors for the championship. Sophomore Ashley Kjar's FireBirds Fottball Club team, which represents Salt Lake City, Utah, will be vying for the 20-and-under region championship. Incoming freshman Sabrina Fenton will also be in Erie from July 2-5. Her team won the Virginia State Cup in the 17-and-under age group and will be competing for the regional title. --Rick Haggerty
