We welcome the Class of 2002 and offer you a peek of what you'll find out about life at Penn. At Penn, you'll find a diverse array of people living, learning and working with you. You'll be exposed to academic disciplines you didn't know existed. And you'll discover more about yourself and interacting with others than you will about ancient Egyptians. The University experience will change the person you are now and will help you shape the person you will become. Admission to the Class of 2002 was the most selective in recent memory. Penn's standards and reputation, under University President Judith Rodin, are on the rise and you should be proud to play a part in this production winning worldwide acclaim. It's also a time of great change at the University. Your class will be the first to experience the new "college house" system, which will reorganize dormitories into 12 multi-year houses with added programming, staff and academic support. This fall you will also witness the unveiling of Sansom Common, the University's new upscale retail complex. And you will watch the continuing stages of the Perelman Quad student center project, which is funding renovation of four landmark campus buildings to provide study, meeting, eating and performance space. It will be an exciting year, in the classrooms, dormitories and community. Browse through this special edition of The Daily Pennsylvanian and see what's left out of the campus tour. Once you arrive, join us to cover the University. Or help manage our independent corporation, with its $1 million annual budget. The least you can do is become an avid reader. We, the 114th Board of Editors and Managers, encourage you to enjoy the rest of your summer and store up sleep for those all-nighters that lie ahead.
The Daily Pennsylvanian is an independent, student-run newspaper. Please consider making a donation to support the coverage that shapes the University. Your generosity ensures a future of strong journalism at Penn.
