Shaw assistant principal fills many roles

Bruce Nelson has been the assistant principal at Shaw for four years. The Community Times Assistant Principal Bruce Nelson is busy working to make Shaw Middle School a better place. He hopes one day to return to Jamaica to work with students in his homeland. For the meantime Mr. Nelson says he will continue to work with students right here at Shaw Middle School. Mr. Nelson says he wants all of his students from Shaw to go on and graduate from high school. Mr. Nelson's personal goals are to remain healthy and to spend quality time with his family. The assistant principal at Shaw for four years, Mr. Nelson also worked as the acting principal at the Shoemaker Middle School and was an administrative assistant at the Thomas Shalcross disciplinary school. Mr. Nelson grew up in St. Elizabeth, Jamaica, and attended Monroe College. He then came to the United States and graduated from Simon Gratz High School. He graduated from Lincoln University in Lincoln, Pa. "Our favorite thing about Mr. Nelson is his fairness with students and his Jamaican accent," Raynard Archer said. Mr. Nelson said that a lot of his inspiration to succeed came from his family and what he calls "his roots." The best advice that he gives to students is that they must take advantage of the educational opportunities offered. "This is a golden time in students' lives to go on to bigger and better things," he said.
