Johnson to compete in 1998 Penn Relays

He will compete next Saturday in the 4x200 relay for Nike International. Johnson will be joined by a trio of world class athletes -- Jonathan Drummond, Allen Johnson and Maurice Green. The quartet of superstars will attempt to shatter the world record of 1:18.68 set back at the 1994 Relays by the Santa Monica Track Club unit of Carl Lewis, Leroy Burrell, Michael Marsh and Floyd Heard. Johnson, who holds the world record of 19.32 seconds in the 200-meter dash, last appeared in the Penn Relays in 1995, when he clocked an unofficial time of 18.70 seconds in the anchor leg of a 4x200 relay team. Other big name athletes taking center stage at this year's Carnival include Gail Devers, Gwen Torrence, Marion Jones and Mary Slaney. --Miles Cohen
