A Penn Shuttle Service van apparently struck a maroon Mitsubishi Galant at the intersection, totaling the car's left side and shattering nearly all its windows. Several people who arrived at the scene shortly after the accident said the Mitsubishi's driver was applying pressure to his bloody hand or arm, evidently because of a gunshot wound, before medics drove him to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. Witnesses said they believed the man, who appeared to be in his 20s, was shot elsewhere in West Philadelphia. He remained in stable condition as of 1 a.m. A passenger in the car was not injured, police said. The van's driver was also not injured. No other details were immediately available. -- Scott Lanman
