The Daily Pennsylvanian

LETTERS: Progressive publication

To the Editor: Objectivity, hard work and environmental consciousness are the attributes of my praise for the article. I am one of the people who witnessed the entire unfortunate episode of asbestos contamination in the library, and I feel upset about the callous way that the University hygenists and the technicians representing the Office of Environmental Health and Safety chose to go about their tasks initially and in the aftermath. Gholam Oliai College of General Studies staff Dangerous disorder To the Editor: I am writing to deplore the irresponsibility with which the DP's Business staff has been promoting its Valentine's Day personal ads. In ads that have run in the past week, the tagline reads, "Candy? She's dieting." Does the DP not realize just how widespread and dangerous eating disorders are on this campus? It is bad enough that our society upholds unrealistic and unhealthful ideals of thinness without our widely read student newspaper doing the same. Nichole Shumanis GSE '03, Wharton '94 Phenomenal photo To the Editor: My breath was literally taken away when I observed the DP's 2/3/98 photo of Brandon Slay about to pin the Cornell wrestler. This may well rank as one of the greatest sports pictures I have ever seen. If it's within NCAA, rules I'd like to see Slay get a framed copy of this photo and would be willing to contribute to the cost. Congratulations to Karen Lewis for a great job.
