EDITORIAL: An alternative to Rosengarten

Until break, Class of 1920 Commons should remain open throughout the night as study space. The intensity of these couple weeks makes it all the more inconvenient that Van Pelt Library has curtailed the Rosengarten Reserve room's late-night hours due to noisy renovations. Although Steinberg-Dietrich Hall offers alternative 24-hour study space, it is often crowded and the desks are too small to allow students to spread out their study materials. We suggest that for the eight days that remain before break, Class of 1920 Commons remain open through the night as study space. When Commons hours were extended during last semester's reading days and exam period, student response was tremendous. It would likely be an equally popular proposition this time around. The problem does not end with Rosengarten, however. In the midst of Perelman Quad and other building renovation, campus facilities are closing left and right. As College and Logan halls have shown, these buildings should look fabulous when the renovations are completed. But as these projects are planned well in advance, administrators should be prepared to offer alternative accommodations in the interim.
