Commons to serve as late-night study space The Bowman Room, located on the middle level of the dining hall, has a capacity of 140 and will be open all hours of the day and night except from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., when residents of the Modern Languages College House eat dinner in the room. Marketing and Meal Contract Coordinator Adam Sherr said if the space gets crowded, officials may open up additional space in Commons for students who want to study. Dining officials made the move in response to complaints from students that the early closing hours at Van Pelt Library's Rosengarten Reserve room left them with few places to study late at night. The hours at Commons are in effect through March 5. Workers are currently renovating parts of the ground floor and first floor of Van Pelt Library. Although Rosengarten usually stays open until 7 a.m., officials decided earlier this month to close the entire library at midnight on weeknights so workers can demolish two spiral stairwells. Students have complained that Steinberg-Dietrich Hall, which is open 24 hours, is too crowded. -- Scott Lanman
