Dooney is best remembered as the powerful fullback on a team coached by the legendary George Munger. Among Dooney's most famous teammates were Chuck Bednarick, Bill Talarico, and "Reds" Bagnell. Following graduation, Dooney became an assistant coach with the Quakers. He also coached Penn Charter, retiring with a 82-26-4 record. The private school recently dedicated its newest sports facility in his honor.
