CAMPUS BRIEFS: Tuesday, April 22, 1997

Gunman robs student at 39th and Sansom College junior Andrew Savage said he was heading toward his home on the 3900 block of Sansom Street at approximately 10 p.m. when a man wielding a black semiautomatic pistol confronted him. "'You know what I want'," Savage quoted the man as saying. The robber then went through all of Savage's pockets, taking his wallet. The suspect, whom police described as a 6'2", long-haired black male with a large nose and wearing a long red coat, fled east on Sansom Street from 39th Street. As of late last night, police had not yet arrested a suspect in connection with the robbery. -- Scott Lanman Meeting to discuss proposals affecting W. Philly neighborhoods In its annual meeting today, the group Penn Faculty and Staff for Neighborhood Issues will discuss recent University proposals that could affect West Philadelphia. PFSNI will debate best how to "express our concern to the administration" over the University's policies toward the surrounding area, said History Chairperson Lynn Lees, a member of the organization's steering committee. The new blue-light phones, the Sansom Commons proposal and other issues will fall under discussion, Lees said. The one-hour meeting will begin at 12 p.m. in room B-1 of Vance Hall. -- Mike Madden
