LETTERS: Town meeting: a call to action

To the Editor: This Tuesday, March 4, at 7:00 p.m. in McClelland Hall in the Quadrangle, Chodorow will be discussing these issues along with Vice-Provost for Student Life Valerie Swain-Cade McCoullum and Dan Gutin, a senior active in the Perelman Planning Committee. It is true that the Perelman Quad will only be complete for the freshman class and those after them, but it is imperative the undergraduate student body make an appropriate appearance for this important town meeting. Besides, the plans for the next three years that you will be here will interest you just the same. Do you know where your group is going to be located next year or in three years? Do you know what the policy is for keeping space in the Perelman Quad? Do you know how the offices for each group on campus will be administered? Do you know where you are going to be able to build sets for your productions or rehearse for your performances? Do you know what buildings will be changed, lost and added with the construction of the Perelman Quad? Do you know which of your favorite restaurants and shops in Houston Hall will still be there after the year 2000? Do you want to know if we will finally get good coffee on this campus? You need to know, not because it might be interesting to know what the future classes of Penn will be able to enjoy, but because it involves the future of your group! Voice all of your concerns and all of your praises. I urge all student leaders to make this your top priority tonight. If you have a meeting, bring everyone in your group there. This is how we make a difference at this school and how student groups will continue to make a difference for years to come. Do you have something to add? Its up to you to show the Provost and the University that you care about what happens to our student union and to our school. If this town meeting is successful, you can be sure to see them once a semester. Jared Miller College '97
