CAMPUS BRIEFS: Thursday, February 13, 1997

Lineup for suspect in Sled murder cancelled And this morning's preliminary hearing for the suspect, Eugene "Sultan" Harrison, might also be cancelled, according to University Police Detective Patricia Brennan. At a January hearing, Harrison's court-appointed attorney, Tariq El-Shabazz, requested and was granted a lineup for Harrison after Sled's fiancee, Cecelia Hagerhall, misidentified El-Shabazz as the perpetrator. University Police Detectives William Danks, Brennan and Hagerhall waited approximately two hours for El-Shabazz at the court-ordered lineup, which was scheduled for 5:30 p.m., according to Brennan. She said the judge may reschedule the hearing or proceed without using Hagerhall as an identifying witness. The judge will make that decision at a hearing scheduled for 9 a.m. today in room 903 of the Criminal Justice Center at 13th and Filbert streets. Harrison -- who allegedly initiated the robbery which eventually led to Sled's murder -- was one of three suspects arrested in the case. Bridget Black, who allegedly stabbed Sled five times, and Yvette Stewart, who allegedly waited in the getaway vehicle near 43rd Street and Larchwood Avenue, both pleaded not guilty to murder, robbery and related charges at a formal arraignment last week. Brennan said the judge has the option of finding El-Shabazz in contempt of court and fining him for missing the hearing, but that rarely happens. -- Scott Lanman
