Sam Goody shuts doors He stressed, however, that the closure was not influenced by safety concerns or complaints about the University's management of the site. "The decision to close that location had no bearing on the University or the surrounding area," Shaw said. He added that the Sam Goody chain has no plans to relocate the store, which had been part of the Shops at Penn complex at 3401 Walnut Street. The University acquired full leasing responsibilities for the shopping center last December and now manages both the Food Court and the complex's retail shops. University Treasurer Scott Lederman said the space will not remain vacant, and that he hopes to fill it soon. But although Lederman said an "exciting" business will fill the space, he would not specify the type of retail establishment the University is seeking to replace the store. -- Tammy Reiss
