· Avoid excessive drinking. "Excessive drinking in another country can pose very serious problems because often the student is unfamiliar with the particular nuances of the culture or country or is ignorant of where it is safe to go at night," said Evelyn Wiener, associate director of clinical medicine at Student Health Services. To avoid inappropriate drinking, men should have no more than two to three drinks, and women should have no more than one to two drinks, Wiener said. · Avoid overexposure to the sun. Director of Student Health Marjeanne Collins recommends using a sunscreen with a Sun Protection Factor of at least 15. This is especially important for students who haven't been exposed to the sun for quite some time. "Tanning can pose many long-term problems to the skin," Collins said. "Sun exposure means cancer exposure also, and even if you think you are tanning safely, it is still aging your skin." -- Jenny Axt
