The Daily Pennsylvanian

EDITORIAL: Kudos

To University President Judith Rodin for providing necessary leadership and dedication to a previously battle-weary administration. Her public relations and fund-raising efforts are largely responsible for Penn's steady rise toward the top of higher education. To both the administration and student leaders for their continued attempts to bring a 1996 presidential debate to the University. To the English Department for voting to reopen English Professor Gregg Camfield's tenure case. He is an outstanding teacher and scholar, and we hope the School of Arts and Sciences Personnel Committee recognizes his value to the University. To Penn Watch for assisting in its first arrest, but more importantly, for its serious pursuit of a safer and more secure community. To Athletic Director Steve Bilsky and the Class of 1971 for their generous gift to renovate the Palestra. Hopefully, the efforts of these individuals will one day help restore the Palestra to the glory it enjoyed in days past. To the University for its efforts to attract new businesses to West Philadelphia. The influx of new companies will help revive the local economy and provide the initial impetus for rebuilding West Philadelphia. To Student Activities Council Chairperson Graham Robinson, a College senior, for providing honest and effective leadership within student government. He has recognized SAC's deficiencies and has taken appropriate measures to improve them. To former Penn guard Jerome Allen for proving that an Ivy League athlete can compete in the NBA at the highest level. To Psychology Professor Henry Gleitman for sustained excellence in teaching for 50 years and a remarkable 100 introductory classes. He epitomizes dedication to undergraduate teaching.
