The Daily Pennsylvanian

'DP' introduces new World Wide Web home page

Compiled by DP staff The on-line edition of the newspaper will offer readers a full-text version of the day's paper, access to the newspaper's archives, information about the DP and opportunities to provide feedback. The home page can be accessed at "http://www.dp.upenn.edu". DP Executive Editor Charles Ornstein said the on-line edition will offer readers more than just the content of the day's newspaper. The archives, for instance, will allow readers to browse old stories dating back to January 1993. "By offering easy access to past issues and additional information about the DP and its staff, we see DP Online as a supplement to the printed paper, not a substitute for it," he said. "We really want to give visitors something beyond what they can get by picking up the newspaper." Ornstein added that each day's paper -- consisting of news, opinion and sports -- will not be on line until 9 p.m. The other features can be accessed at any time. Plans are already underway to place Campus Events and classified advertising on the electronic edition in the near future. DP Art Editor Salman Sajid and reporter Mike Madden worked with Engineering senior Meng Weng Wong and Engineering junior Rourke McNamara to develop the on-line edition. Ornstein said comments and suggestions about DP Online should be e-mailed to "suggestions@dp.upenn.edu".
