Softball wins 2 of 4

Compiled by DP Sports Staff The Quakers (10-25, 2-4 Ivy League) lost 9-0 and 2-1 to the Elis (16-14, 3-2). But Penn rebounded to claim its first two Ivy League the next day against the Bears (9-14, 4-4), cruising to an 8-3 win in game one and then eking out a 6-3 victory in the nightcap. Complete details will appear in tomorrow's edition. · All three Penn crew teams were in action this weekend. The heavyweights journeyed to New York to take on Columbia and Princeton in the Childs Cup. The Quakers came in second in the first varsity race, losing to Princeton by just over a second and beating Columbia by a full 23 seconds. Penn could not get by the Tigers in most of the other races. Princeton won the second and third varsity races by about four seconds each. The women's team won the Orange Cup on the Schyulkill River, topping Syracuse and Northeastern. The Quakers beat the Orangemen by five seconds and Northeastern by 10 seconds. The lightweight team hosted Yale and Columbia in the Dodge Cup. The Elis breezed to victory, beating second-place Penn by 11 seconds. The Quakers finished eight seconds ahead of Columbia. See tomorrow's editions for complete details.
