Maloney drafted by USBL

Compiled by DP Sports Staff Maloney, the 15th player selected overall, was named Ivy League Player of the Year this season after averaging 14.7 points and 4.0 assists for the 22-6 Quakers. The Turnpikes, one of 10 teams in the USBL, begin play May 12 in Hoboken, N.J. The league is in its 10th season. The Turnpikes also drafted Connecticut women's basketball star Rebecca Lobo, the key to the Huskies' recent national championship. Lobo was the third woman ever drafted by the USBL. · Penn assistant Gil Jackson, a finalist for the head coaching position at Delaware, was passed over for the job by the Blue Hens yesterday. Duke assistant Mike Brey was announced as Steve Steinwedel's successor at Delaware. Jackson, one of 103 applicants, is expected to return to the Quakers' bench next season.
