M. Hoops lands Romanczuk

Compiled by DP Sports Staff Jed Ryan, a 6-5 forward from Erie, gave an oral commitment to Penn in January. Romanczuk averaged 14 points and eight rebounds at Archbishop Carroll, the 1994-95 champions of the Catholic League, while earning Daily News All-Catholic honors. According to the Daily News, he ranks third in his class with a 3.9 grade-point average and scored 1,210 on his SAT. Romanczuk, who plans to enroll in the Wharton School, also made unofficial visits to Princeton, Delaware, Lehigh and Rider. He transferred to Carroll his junior year after beginning his career at Malvern Prep, the alma mater of Penn coach Fran Dunphy. · The spring period for high school basketball seniors across the country to sign letters of intent starts today. Penn is waiting to hear from several players. Among them is Rob Hodgson, the Indiana University transfer who still has not made up his mind where he wants to make his new college home. One high school star rumored to be considering Penn is Frankie Brown, a 6-5 senior from Beverly Hills, Calif. Brown will reportedly attend USC if the Trojans offer him a scholarship; if they do not, Penn may be his top choice. Another West Coast player looking at Penn is Jeff Knoll, a 6-11 center from Seattle.
