LETTERS TO THE EDITOR: Popular Culture Shock

To the Editor: 1. Burger King did the "Herb" commercials. 2. The "Freshmaker" commercials, which clearly originated in some European country, are most likely not intended to be so cheesy. Keep in mind, people in France still think Don Johnson is cool. 3. Did he quote from The Secret of My Success because it was on TV last week? Surely, there are numerous other quotes from other movies that are more deserving. Something from The Legend of Billie Jean, for example. 4. Worst fashion trend that I've still seen at Penn: Guys who taper and cuff their jeans. Please stop. 5. Best game: Ants in the Pants. 6. Best character from the movies: Mr. Pink 7. Worst commercial: Stork Chocolate Reisen. Obviously from Europe, just as cheesy as the "Freshmaker." Plus the dubbing is off. Rocky Pan Law '96 n To the Editor: It is with great difficulty that I maintain my composure. After reading Shawn Klein's irresponsible attack on Small Wonder, I felt compelled to firestorm the DP office. How is it possible for Mr. Klein to be a "monster fan of pop culture," while at the same time denying the positive social force known as Small Wonder? That show singlehandedly recreated the concept of the American sitcom and revolutionized the public's perception of artificial life. I am deeply saddened by this lack of journalistic integrity.
