Compiled by DP Sports Staff Butcher, a 1988 graduate at Princeton, won the 89th annual tournament by defeating Jeff Deitch of Detroit 15-5 in the fifth and deciding game. Deitch had evened the match in the fourth game with a close 15-13 victory. At age 30, Butcher is the oldest U.S. squash champion since Henri Salane, also 30, took the title in 1961. In the semifinals, Butcher defeated Jehagir Pandole of Franklin and Marshall in three straight games. He took four games to dispose of John Saidel of Toledo, Ohio, in the quarterfinals.
