BRIEF: Two cars collide on Spruce yesterday

A silver Suburu heading eastbound on Spruce allegedly skidded through a red light at the intersection and struck a dark grey Honda which had entered the intersection heading southbound on 38th Street, according to witnesses and University police on the scene. "The silver car was heading down [38th Street] and it seemed to be accelerating toward the light," said area resident Hercules Worts, who said he witnessed the accident. Worts added that the driver of the Suburu started to break but that the car continued to skid into the intersection and struck the grey Honda. The driver of the Suburu was taken to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania with minor head injuries and the passenger of the Suburu was taken to HUP with a broken wrist, according to University Police and rescue workers on the scene. Both the driver and the passenger of the Honda were taken to HUP with minor head injuries. Two children in the back seat of the Honda were taken to Children's Hospital of Philadelphia with minor head injuries, officers at the scene said. -- Jeremy Kahn
