BRIEF: Penn Pals holds Mini Olympics in Quad

The day's events included basket tossing, relay racing and a dance contest. College junior and Penn Pals treasurer Julian Abrams said that the University students involved enjoyed the successful event as much as the children. "This was our biggest spring event but only one of many things we do for the elementary school students," Abrams said. At the beginning of each school year, University students are matched with a student from the West Philadelphia elementary school and asked to sPennd at least three hours a week with them. "Many of the kids come from broken homes and this is a chance for them to do things they would not normally do, such as visit the zoo or go to a museum," Abrams said. "It's something for the kids to look forward to," said Wharton junior MeeKyung Yoo, the director of Penn Pals. "University students can show them what's out there." Other events organized this year included a Halloween party and an ice skating party. -- SARA FORYT
