LETTER: Not Fooled

On Wednesday, I conscientiously wore my khakis, not my jeans. I did this not because I'm a homophobe, but because I wanted to make my statement against Bisexual, Gay, Lesbian Awareness Days' "Jeans Day," which I view as a pathetic and manipulative tactic to obtain support. I must have been mistaken when I thought organizations such as BGLAD were supposed to promote awareness and understanding, not prey on ignorance to falsely project support for their cause. Yes, BGLAD has its right to practice what it believes and I respect it rights. Therefore, respect my right to wear my jeans without having to worry what statement I'm making. You ask that I do not impose my heterosexual views on you, I ask that you practice what you preach! If you really want to see who your true supporters are, might I suggest that you declare "Shorts Day" in the midst of winter, say around February 10? CANDY DALIPE Wharton '94
