If wanting to help in order to feel like part of a community or even safer in West Philadelphia through learning about it and experiencing it is selfish, then I am all for selfishness. Also, it is important to realize that even if motives begin as selfish, through involvement, the actions will lead to a better appreciation of West Philadelphia and consequently, actions that will stem from more selfish motives.
