EDITORIAL: "Learning Experience"

Or why many people recommend you receive an anonymous test, as opposed to a confidential one? This is the type of information members of the University community could have learned, had they attended HIV/AIDS Awareness events over the past week. Unfortunately -- and perhaps dangerously -- very few people did. Despite organizers' best efforts, University community members learned precious little last week about a very important subject, simply because most people failed to show up. But what Student Health should learn from last week is that the University wants and needs more opportunities for the type of anonymous HIV/AIDS testing offered at the Christian Association Thursday, as opposed to the confidential HIV/AIDS tests offered everyday at Student Health. In sharp contrast to the apathy directed toward most events, there was an overwhelming turnout for the anonymous testing -- 130 people showed up, and 40 were turned away. Hopefully Student Health will respond to this demonstrated demand, since they know what all the fuss is about. If you don't, it's time to find out.
