Student assaults other students

Three University students were assaulted by another student yesterday morning, sending one victim to Student Health with a possible broken finger. The incident occurred at at 1:34 a.m. at 203 South 40th street. The simple assault was reported to University Police and a report will be referred to the Judicial Inquiry Office, police said. University Police said they have also encouraged all victims to file reports with the Philadelphia Police as well as with University Police. The more victims of crimes file reports with the Philadelphia Police, the more accurate Philadelphia's allocation of police officers to the University vicinity will be, University Police Lieutenant Susan Holmes said. In an unrelated incident also last night, an unknown person broke an exterior window in the Delta Psi fraternity house at 3637 Locust Walk and stole an unknown quantity of whiskey. The incident was reported to University Police at 6:08 a.m. Police also arrested a man at 40th and Walnut streets Wednesday night on suspicion of receiving stolen property. The man was observed carrying a vacuum cleaner, mop, bucket, and two boxes full of cleaning equipment, all of which belonged to the University and came from 4015 Walnut Street. Philadelphia West Detectives have taken the suspect into custody. Police also received a report of a lost $3000 check in the women's room in the basement of the Education School Wednesday night. Also on Wednesday night, police learned of a vehicle accident on the 4000 block of Baltimore Avenue, when a SEPTA trolley hit a parked Escort van. The van sustained damage to its left rear bumper and quarter panel, but the trolley was undamaged. No one was injured in the accident.
