Currently, endowed chairs, which provide higher salaries for professors and are funded through $1.25 million donations to the University, are only available in research. But the Student Committee on Undergraduate Education is asking the deans to try and raise money for renewable teaching chairs as well. Provost Aiken said he thinks the idea is a good one as long as the term is limited, say to five years. Rick Nahm, vice president for development, also believes money can be raised for the chairs, according to Aiken. Now it's up to the deans to make it happen.
