At approximately 11 p.m., an unidentified student crossing Spruce at 37th Street was hit by a car heading east, said Keith Christian, an off-duty police officer at the scene of the accident. The student was able to walk around but was taken by University Police officers to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania for further examination, University Police officer Darrel Blaire said. Blaire added that officers from the Philadelphia Police 18th District headquarters would determine whether to ticket the driver or press formal charges. -- Kenneth Baer and Emily Culbertson
