Last Wednesday, the Mediterranean grill Bitar's began serving its kabobs and falafel sandwiches in the Moravian Cafes food court on Walnut and 34th streets, filling up the vacancy left by Eat at Joe's this summer. The Bitar's on 40th Street, which opened seven months ago, will continue its normal business operations. Operated by the South Philadelphian restaurateur Amin Bitar, the Bitar's in the Moravian Cafes will offer the same prices and food options as the 40th Street store. Manager Don Shiko said that the accessibility of the new Bitar's on 34th Street will make it a better lunch spot than the 40th Street location. He estimates that about 65 percent of Bitar's customers are students. According to Rich Douggan, the manager of the 40th Street location, business at the Bitar's in the Hamilton Village shops has been excellent since its opening last April.
