The $500 grand prize went to Nursing graduate students Antonette Shaw, Mackenzie Mapes and Kristen van der Veen for their startup, Body Wars. The three started the business as a project for a clinical community class.

The hackathon — described as “the best student-run hackathon I’ve ever seen” by a representative from Yahoo!, a sponsor of the event — brought together students from Columbia, Harvard, Rutgers and other East Coast universities, to participate in a 48-hour tech app-creating competition. The Food Justice Dinner that kicked off Food Week brought together about 40 Penn students, community members, Bon Appetit management and both adult- and high-school-aged Urban Nutrition Initiative representatives, to expand food justice awareness.
