Philadelphia’s two major newspapers — The Philadelphia Inquirer and Philadelphia Daily News, along with online newspaper Philly.com — will be auctioned today in an effort to “come out of bankruptcy protection.”

The men’s lightweight and women’s crews took to Princeton’s Lake Carnegie with the aim of upsetting the respective No. 1 and No. 2 Tigers. But Princeton was up to the task, emerging victorious in both contests.

Following a roller coaster season in which the Quakers won as many as six in a row, the squad entered a four game stand with Princeton this weekend having lost six of its past seven. However, the Red and Blue didn’t disappoint, winning three of four.


Postseason dreams put to bed

Despite a team-leading four goals from senior Rob McMullen and six points from junior Corey Winkoff, the Quakers (5-8, 1-5 Ivy) were unable to overcome a career-high six tallies from Dartmouth’s Rhett Miller on their way to a 15-11 defeat.

This year, 53 students of American Indian descent were accepted to Penn, as opposed to 19 last year, according to Six Directions Co-President and College junior Megan Red Shirt-Shaw.



On mound, Penn makes up ground

Entering the final game of a four game stand with Princeton, freshman pitcher John Beasley had a no-hitter after five innings and gave up only one hit through seven before being pulled in the eighth.


Bolt strikes at Penn Relays

Usain Bolt pleased the crowd Saturday, taking just 8.79 seconds to anchor Jamaica’s 4x100-meter team to a record-setting victory in the USA vs. The World event.



Step Show wraps up first MGC Week

The Step Show, which is the biggest of its kind on the East Coast, marked the end of the first-annual Multicultural Greek Council Week — a showcase of academic, cultural, social and philanthropic events put on by Penn’s historically black, Latino and Asian-American fraternities and sororities.

Master of Science in Education student Dan Chinburg's motivation for bringing the movement to Penn is to “enhance the diversity of opinion” on campus, as well as to expose students to “alternate views … that are very foreign to their experiences.”


College Green sleep out raises malaria awareness

The event consisted of students signing a petition to end malaria, listening to music and speakers, and screening the documentary 'When the Night Comes,' all followed by attendees sleeping out on College Green. It was held in honor of World Malaria Day on Sunday.
