Sometime in 1999 my father took me along on his daily ride to work. He was a landscape architect and had been working on planting a rose garden in the backyard of a large, concrete house.

On May 27, USA Field Hockey announced their selections for the 2017 Young Women’s National Championship. Included among the players chosen were two of Penn’s own — Alexa Hoover and Alexa Schneck.

“Hey Day was truly the biggest expression of school spirit I've ever seen at Penn,” College junior Catherine Oksas said. “And it lasted almost a full 2 hours. It was crazy.”

Pitchers Billy Lescher and Jake Cousins were taken by the Detroit Tigers and Washington Nationals in the 17th and 20th rounds, respectively, and fellow pitcher Adam Bleday went in the 27th round to the Houston Astros. Closer Jake Nelson rounded the group out, going in the 33rd round to the Tigers.

This change comes after a consideration by the Admissions Office to delete the Facebook group for admitted students. Access to the page provided the means for an admitted student to collect contact information from the page and add black freshmen to a racist group chat in November.

Major League Baseball’s amateur draft kicked off Monday night. With more thanforty rounds taking place through Wednesday, over 1,200 aspiring big leaguers will be matched with the organization with which they will begin their professional careers. Irene Hurford, who works as an assistant professor of psychiatry, is one of five recipients nationwide to be awarded the 2017 Exemplary Psychiatrist Award from the National Alliance on Mental Illness.

There are 45 different student-run performing arts organizations at Penn who put up over 60 performances each year. Here are seven of the most prominent.

College freshman Elizabeth Luhnow described the “amazing relationships” she formed on PennQuest. “A lot of the people I met I probably would not have met otherwise,” she said. “I would 100% recommend PennQuest. I would not let a sibling come to Penn without doing it."

Sean Clarke was the lone Quaker representative to embark on the trip to Eugene, Oregon for the biggest collegiate track meet of the year. While Clarke had grown accustomed to having the support of his teammates, being the only Penn athlete forced Clarke to adjust his game.

The alleged perpetrator, described by the Division of Public Safety as a lightly-complected black man with curly hair in dark pants and a purple shirt, used a "simulated weapon" to rob someone unaffiliated with Penn.
