Since women hold the title of CEO at renowned companies like Yahoo!, PepsiCo and Sunoco, it should be no surprise that the percentage of female MBAs at the Wharton School has been steadily increasing.


Penn’s libraries are busy making thousands of hard-to-find books and publications available online in a multifaceted effort intended to make rare literature more available to academics at Penn and around the world.

Nursing Dean Afaf Meleis spoke about the state of the Nursing School at the annual State of the School Address in Ann L. Roy Auditorium. She discussed the School's new freshmen and financial-aid plans, as well as the effects of health-care reform and H1N1 on campus.

In an effort to conserve paper, writing seminars have been becoming progressively more digitized, with students even submitting end-of-course portfolios digitally. But for many students, these efforts hardly make a dent in the amount of paper they end up using.

Arts and the City year puts spotlight on cultural activities

The Arts & the City theme centers around art and culture — both on Penn’s campus and in Philadelphia — and involves a variety of organizations, ranging from the University Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology to student groups such as the Penn Art Club and the Center for Public Health Initiatives.


Post-graduation plans

After a six-month job search applying to a range of positions, 2009 College alumna Sarah Seligman is now happily employed, conducting schizophrenia research for the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania.

Given the current economic situation, the Penn Museum has made it a goal to “develop itself as a destination,” the museum’s director, Richard Hodges, wrote in an e-mail. “It needs to attract a much larger audience with associated revenues to become sustainable.”

"What better to way to figure out what you want to get out of a school than by taking a class with the person who runs it?" asked College freshman Anthony DiBella, explaining why he participated in the proseminar taught by University President Amy Gutmann.

As an alternative to working for an established firm, these alumni have launched their own companies or become involved with family businesses. Ultimately, this alternative permits recent graduates to depend less on the currently erratic economy and pursue other interests.

For freshmen, the week of New Student Orientation is a blur of activities, new faces and navigating Locust Walk. But in between the fraternity parties and finding our way from the Quadrangle to Hayden Hall, Penn students do find time to study.
