Penn softball took on La Salle Wednesday in its last contest before heading into Ivy play and picked up a 6-0 victory.

The Quakers came out of the weekend even, splitting with both Lehigh Friday and Rider Saturday at Warren Field.

The softball team can now add the newest member of the coaching staff, pitching expert Lisa Sweeney, to its list of assets.

With bases loaded, the Quakers couldn't connect and Syracuse cruised to a 6-1 victory in game one of the doubleheader, and 8-1 in second at Warren Field.

On Wednesday afternoon at Warren Field, the Quakers were held to just six combined runs over two losses to the Hawks, 2-5 and 4-13 in the nightcap.

The Quakers went 5-3 on their spring break road trip.

This year, the Red and Blue start the season controversy-free and with a robust 22-player roster, including six freshmen.

Penn sophomore Jessica Melendez's hometown in Puerto Rico and the post-industrial landscape of Philadelphia are linked by her love of softball.

Trailing division leader Cornell by four games, Penn can clinch a division crown only if it sweeps Columbia (11-30, 2-14), and Princeton sweeps Cornell.

Following a roller coaster season in which the Quakers won as many as six in a row, the squad entered a four game stand with Princeton this weekend having lost six of its past seven. However, the Red and Blue didn’t disappoint, winning three of four.

The Quakers will head to New Jersey for their annual four-game set against Princeton. The first two games will begin today at 12:30 p.m., and the series will finish up with two more tomorrow at the same time.

The Penn softball team proved once again that it can’t hang with nonconference opponents at the plate, falling 7-0 and 8-2 to the Dragons.

The Penn women’s softball team might be coming off a down weekend, but don’t count it out yet.

The Quakers fell short this weekend, losing three of four to the Big Red, including a complete-game no-hitter from Elizabeth Dalrymple on Sunday.

Penn (12-15, 6-2 Ivy) will host division rival Cornell (21-10, 7-1) for their annual four-game set — a doubleheader Saturday at 3 p.m. and another 12:30 p.m. Sunday at Warren Field.

Though a dormant offense has plagued Penn’s softball team for much of the year, it certainly wasn’t an issue Wednesday.

After a weekend of two brutal losses and two close victories, the Penn softball team will try and break its up-and-down streak with a pair of wins against Lafayette today.
