An attempted burglary reported in the 4200 block of Walnut Street prompted a UPennAlert Tuesday afternoon. 

According to the alert sent around 3:40 p.m., police advise students to use caution and avoid the area. The Department of Public Safety also advised on its website to ensure residents lock windows and doors.

In an emailed statement to The Daily Pennsylvanian, DPS said the complainant heard an unknown person attempting to enter her residence through a locked exterior door and called Penn Police, who searched the area for the suspect upon arrival.

DPS issued an all-clear at 4:05 p.m. Police and security officers are still patrolling the area.
