Phila. described as best city to host Democratic convention

The "American drama" Philadelphia has to offer makes it the best place to host the 2016 Democratic convention, or so says the Washington Post.

Philadelphia, New York and Columbus, Ohio are all vying to host the convention. Though New York has previously hosted the convention three times, Johnathan Capehart of the Washington Post argues that there are various characteristics of the Barclays Center — the venue where the convention will be hosted if it is held in New York — that make it a less than convenient spot. Capehart argues that the Barclays Center's location in the residential area around Barclays will "make life a living hell" for the people that live there. Columbus' problem is that it will have neither the hotel space nor the transportation to accomodate the heavy traffic caused by the convention.

That leaves Philadelphia. Other than the city's powerful history, it has enough hotel space to host all visitors, the transportation means to move people around the city effortlessly, a "thriving restaurant scene" and the funds to host the convention.

Additionally, hosting the convention in Philadelphia will be a worthwhile investment for Democrats. "If Democrats want to propel their nominee out of their convention armed with the best argument for a third term in the White House," said Capehart, "they will do so from Philadelphia."

The chosen city will be announced in the coming weeks.
